BIOLOGIE DU CRISTALLIN (in French) by Jean Nordmann - 730 pages, 169 figures, Masson et Cie, Paris. 1954.

In his "Biology of the Lens" the author has written a worthy successor of its 21 predecessors in the series of publications of the Societe Francaise d'Opthalmologie. In this monograph there is a systematical presentation of the entire knowledge of the lens, not merely collected and recorded but evaluated. At the end of each section the conclusion contains a brief summary of the results.

The work opens with an exhaustive description of the normal lens under the following eight categories: embryology, anatomy, physics, chemistry, physical chemistry, static physiology and immunology, which should prove a convenient data for any kind of research on the physiology of the normal lens.

In the second half the author discusses the pathologic lens under non-cataractous and cataractous categories. It is an up-to-date reference work on every conceivable pathological affection of the lens.

Finally the author analysis the relation of immunology to cataract, its pathogenesis and the various forms of medical therapy.

Though in French, the style is simple enough to be understood by anyone with a modest knowledge of the language.
