Dear Editor,
Your Editorial on Cataract and Man Power Planning was very impressive. But there are some other stories also. If any ophthalmologists working in different states are posted in other departments where their services are not necessary. They are posted according to the choice of the Government. For example many ophthalmologists are posted as Leprosy Medical Officers. 2)1 have been posted into many districts and I have operated upon thousands of cases in mobile eye units. But in some areas even the required basic facilities like operating instruments, examination units etc. are not provided by the Government. So it must be impressed or the Government that appointment of ophthalmic surgeons should be made only at centres where the minimum basic requirements are available so that their services can be used for the benefit of the people in the correct way.
