This book is a multi-authored, well-illustrated text on recent trends in Ophthalmology. It mainly covers topics with recent advances although it also has a number of standard topics with their current perspectives.
This ninth edition has a number of new chapters and revised content when compared to its previous version published three years ago. The index is well-categorized into Basic Sciences sections like "Refraction" and "Ocular Therapeutics", as well as into appropriate clinical sections, finally concluding with "Diagnostics" and "Community Ophthalmology".
The selection of basic topics that would invoke keen interest in the student includes "Evaluation of Orbital Disease", "Fundus Fluorescein Angiography", "Esodeviation" and "Microbial Keratitis". The practicing ophthalmologist would benefit from chapters like "Determination of IOL Power", "Current Trends in Management of Ocular Inflammation", "Intra-vitreal VEG-F Inhibitors and Corticosteroids" and "Recent Advances in Oculoplastic Surgeries". Certain unusual topics like "Principles in Molecular Genetics", "Wavefront Sensing", "Planning and Conducting Survey" and "Managing Eye Care Services" would definitely interest a number of upcoming Ophthalmologists.
Most topics are well-supported with neat pictorial figures and appropriate clinical pictures. The chapters are presented under a number of subheadings, a summary of which is present on the first page of every chapter. Most of the chapters have appropriate references to support the facts in the text. Some of the topics do not have updated references, although the overall representation, subject content, paper and print quality make this book an excellent read for the student as well as the practicing ophthalmologist.
