Dear Editor,

I read the recent publication on DNA chip-assisted diagnosis for ocular toxoplasmosis with a great interest. [1] I accept that this report might imply the usefulness of DNA-chip technology in diagnosis of toxoplasmosis. However, there are some concerns in laboratory medicine for this report. First, although Basu et al., mentioned that validation of the DNA chip was already done there is no data on its diagnostic properties (sensitivities, specificity, accuracy, predictive value, etc.). Second, although the use of DNA chip helps provide diagnosis on multiple foci at a single time it can increase the error in the diagnosis. [2] Finally, I would like to conclude that the complete data on the properties as well as cost effectiveness of the DNA-chip approach is still required before implementation of this test for routine usage.
