Several recent reports are available in literature regarding serum immunoglobulin in eye diseases like uveitis, Eale's, trachoma and keratitis.[1] However, not a single report could be found related to Phlyctenulosis. Serum immunoglobulins (G, A & M) were estimated to find out whether there was a change in the levels in phlyctenular cases.
Materials and Methods | | |
Twenty-nine healthy individuals (Group A) and twenty-nine cases of phlyctenulosis (Group B) were subjected to this study. Cases in both groups belonged to same age group.
Besides other routine investigations, the serum immunoglobulins were estimated by single radial diffusion method.
Results | | |
[Table - 1] shows the levels of serum immunologlobulin G, A and M in individual cases of phlyctenulosis.
Statistically there is highly significant rise in serum IgG level (P=< 0.001) and significant rise in IgM level (P= <0.05) in cases of phlyctenulosis [Table - 2]
Discussion | | |
The differential analysis of various serum immunogobulins in normal subjects in our study reveals that mean values of different fractions more or less approximated with those reported by Hobbs and Hepner[3], Sehgal and Aikat[4] and Gupta et al.[2]
In phlyctenulosis cases the serum immunoglobulin G and M are found to be at significantly higher levels (P=
Summary | | |
Estimation of serum immunoglobulin G, A and M was carried out in 29 healthy individuals and 29 cases of phlyctenulosis. The serum IgG and IgM were sigificantly raised in cases of phlyctenulosis as compared to normal subjects.
