Reconstruction of a contracted socket, so as to enable the patient to wear a prosthesis is one of the most vexing problems the ophthalmic plastic surgeons encounter.

A case of contracted socket with ectropion operated once earlier was operated where following steps were taken:

  1. Both fornices were deepened and buccal mucous membrane grafts put.
  2. The atonic ectropion of the lower lid was corrected by conventional technique.
  3. A metal plate and pin strut device (after Maxwell[1], and Mustarde[2],) was fitted over an acrylic mould. The former was removed on 12th day and the latter on 21st day.

The prosthesis fitted very well and was in position, by the 4th week. The presentation was illustrated with 4 suitable photographs.
