A study was made on 600 eyes with refractive errors in different age groups. Refraction without cycloplegics and refraction with cycloplegics (1 % atropine or 2% homatropine or 10% phenyl-epherine) were compared. The results were almost confirmatory in 98% of cases. Majority of refractive errors fell in group of 0 -3 Dioptres. It was concluded that refraction should be done without cycloplegia unless cycloplegia is strongly indicated on clinical or other basis.
It is possible to do refraction and prescribe glasses in one sitting on the same day. This procedure is recommended for adoption on a routine basis.
