I was invited as a Guest Speaker at the Second Clinical Ophthalmological Symposium held at Macau from 16th to 18th October, 1987 and also as a Visiting Professor of Ophthalmology of the Sun-Yat Sen University of Medical Sciences
During the period of my visit to China, I had an occasion to study the full details of "The Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology'. I thought if I give few details about this Journal of Ophthalmology it will be useful not only to our Editors, Contributors of articles but also to readers of our Indian Journal of Ophthalmology.
In order to promote the cooperation and communication to increase the understanding and friendship between Chinese and Indian Ophthalmologists, I would like to take this opportunity to make a brief introduction to the Journal of Ophthalmology.
Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology began publication in October 1950. It is one of the series of the Medical Journals published by the Chinese Medical Association and edited by the Editorial Board of Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology. It is published bio-monthly and distributed domestically and abroad (Japan, Korea, Germany, USA, Canada, Britain etc.)
On the present Editorial Board are Prof. Hu Zheng as Chief Editor and Prof. U Fengming, Yang Jun and Ji Xunchuan as Vice Chief Editors In the "Editorial Board", there are more than fifty members in charge of the review and revision of the manuscripts, some other specialists are also invited in doing these tasks They are divided into "twelve groups" such as, on the topic of comeal disease retinal disease, glaucoma, cataract eye trauma, refraction, ambylopia and strabismus, ophthalmic pathology, etc
They receive about one thousand and two hundred manuscripts every year, the rejection rate is approximately 70%, the publication rate is less than 20%. The circulation has always been over 23,000 and some times it reached its peals, 26,000.
Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology is a comprehensive periodical on Ophthalmology in chinese, 64 pages per issue with photographs, illustrations and English abstracts. It has played an active role in promoting advance of the subject, improving eye care of the people Since 1980, the Journal has been listed in the `Index Medicus' published by the American National Library and regular exchange relations have been established with many foreign journals.
