This book has mainly been written for the ophthalmologist beginning his surgical training. The book is also useful for the surgeon wanting to learn extracapsular surgery. The opening chapters give a descriptive account of the preoperative evaluation of the patient, the choice of anaesthesia and instrumentation. The techniques of extracapsular extraction and phakoemulsification have been dealt with in a stepwise manner, amply illustrated by suitable drawings so that the novice will have no difficulty in following the steps of the operative procedure. In the concluding chapters the authors describe the basic technique of implanting a posterior chamber Sinsky-style lens following an extracapsular extraction or phakoemulsification. The inclusion of certain important practical points in the postoperative management of the patient adds to the usefulness of this manual.
