Dear Editor,

We read with interest the article titled "A Prospective Study of 413 Cases of Lens-Induced Glaucoma in Nepal" by Pradhan et al., Indian J Ophthalmolol (2001; 49:103-07). This article is of special interest for ophthalmologist working in the rural areas.

We have worked in one of tribal districts of Maharashtra state for 7 years. It is our experience that once lens induced glaucoma (LIG) develops in one eye, the other eye is also likely to develop LIG in the absence of timely cataract surgery. In this context we feel that the onus of alerting the patients and their relatives falls on the treating ophthalmologist. It is also pertinent to emphasize the importance of regular check-ups in order to avoid LIG in the fellow eye.
