Retinal Detachment Surgery by A.H. Chigneell. Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1980. Pp 166, Figs. Refs. black and white figures, one colour plate.
This is a well arranged book with the selections of topics useful for proper technique of examination, clinical evaluation of a detachment care and its management. Much emphasis has been laid on the clinical signs and their most practical interpretation to understand its genesis. The detached retina recent or old with or without secondary changes in the retina and vitreous is very well represented in the drawings. The behaviour of retina and vitreous membrance as it changes with the time is very well documented.
The author presents the management of a case in a simplified manner by taking an easy surgical approach without going much into controversies of other surgical modalities. The main emphasis is laid on the episcleral implants-Siliastive sponges with or without drainage. The indications are very well discussed. No much has been said of the intrascleral dissections and use of silicone tires.
The author deserves appreciation for bringing out such a useful book on Retinal detachment surgery which gives a practical insight of the subject. It is well recommended for training ophthalmologists taking up this speciality and retinal surgery to have a quick grasp of subject in a short time.
