Dermis fat grafting in contracted socket |
p. 110 |
SM Betharia, ND Patil PMID:32556975 cases of severely contracted sockets were reconstructed with the use of dermis-fat graft. This type of graft is extremely useful as it is more viable and is a suitable replacement for soft tissue deficiency as in case of contracted socket. Excellent results were obtained and this method seems to be the method of choice in the management of such cases. |

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the orbit |
p. 116 |
SM Betharia, Roopa Arora, Sushil Kumar PMID:2855632Two cases of malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the orbit are reported. Histopathological examination of the orbital biopsy specimen obtained after orbitotomy in one case and exenteration in another showed pleomorphic neoplastic cells arranged in storiform pattern. The tumour cells were composed of hyperchromatic nuclei with prominent nucleoli and admixtures of fibroblasts. Postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy were given. There was no evidence of recurrence two years later. |

Pupillary involvement in autonomic dysfunction-A study in chronic renal failure |
p. 120 |
A Chandra, SP Gour, MK Mitra, KC Garg, B Lal PMID:3255699The pupils are totally innervated by the Autonomic nervous system, but tests of pupillary abnormalities do not form an integral part of the battery of tests used for studying its dysfunction. We have studied the effects of ANS dysfunction of the pupil by the Adrenaline Test of Loewi and correlated it with the other tests based on Cardiovascular, and G.I.T. involvements. In all 11 out of 20 patients, with Chronic Renal Failure studied, had ANS involvement. There was statistically significant pupillary dilatation in 10 and in one case this was the only positive test. I.V. Atropine test was also positive in 10 out of the case 20. This suggests that the Adrenaline Test of Loewi is sensitive and should form an integral part of the battery of tests used for assessing .ANS' dysfunction in various disease settings as this study has shown in CRF. |

Vision in childhood aphakia |
p. 123 |
S Shrivastva, RB Vajpayee, YR Sharma PMID:3255700The poor visual results of the present series especially in monocular congenital infantile and juvenile cataracts suggest that a comprehensive eye health education programme including an aggressive anti amblyopia therapy must be undertaken for congenital and juvenile cataract.
Routine ophthalmic checkup should be done by a paediatrician or by vaccinators for early detection of cataracts and for early appropriate referral.
The surgery should be performed at the earliest and the optical correction and anti amblyopia therapy must be given in the early post-operative period compulsively. Ideally, continuos wear contact lens should be used but at times the method of optical correction which is suitable and possible for the patient may be selected on an individual basis. The role of ' IOL in children remains disputable in the present time but definitely needs more attention and follow-up. |

Amino acids in retinitis pigmentosa |
p. 126 |
MK Singh PMID:3255701Retinitis pigmentosa may be associated with amino acid' disorders; whether the association is incidental or consequential is not known. The present investigation on amino acids in retinitis pigmentosa indicates that the level of plasma amino acids does not differ significantly in patients with retinitis pigmentosa compared to that of normal subjects, hence it has no etiological bearing. |

Orbital haemorrhage following retrobulbar injection |
p. 128 |
Nikhil C Kaushik PMID:3255702Between April 1981 and March 1983, retrobulbar anaesthetic drugs; were injected on 3,453 eyes in preparation for ocular surgery. The incidence of retrobulbar orbital haemorrhage was ©.75% (26 of 3,453 eyes). This complication forced the postponement of surgical procedure to a later date. In 65% (17 of 26 eyes) surgery was carried out within six weeks, while in other cases the interval was longer. This complication of local anaesthesia did not have any adverse effect on the long term management of these cases., except for the temporary setback to their surgical schedule. |

Risk factor profile in retinal detachment |
p. 131 |
Raj Vardhan Azad, BK Nayak, YR Sharma, Hem K Tiwari, PK Khosla PMID:3255703150 cases of retinal detachment comprising 50 patients each of bilateral retinal detachment, unilateral retinal detachment without any retinal lesions in the fellow eve and unilateral retinal detachment with retinal lesions in the fellow eye were studied and the various associated risk factors were statistically analysed. The findings are discussed in relation to their aetiological and prognostic significance in the different types of retinal detachment. Based on these observations certain guidelines are offered which may be of value in decision making, in prophylactic detachment surgery.
Tractional breaks in the superior temporal quadrant especially when symptomatic. mandate prophylactic treatment. Urgency is enhanced it' the patient is aphakic. Associated myopia adds to the urgency. The higher incidence of initial right e' e involvement in all groups suggests a vascular original possibly ischaemic. |

Clinico-histopathological study of the eye in leprosy |
p. 135 |
Sandeep Mithal, VK Pratap, Alka Gupta, Rajiv PMID:3255704Involvement of the eyes is one of the most serious complication that may occur in leprosy, and if neglected or left untreated may eventually give rise to blindness. 200 patients of leprosy were studied with the aim to know the extent of ocular involvement of the eye. Along with this conjunctival smear and biopsy were taken for histological and bacteriological examination. These findings were compared with the findings of smear and biopsy of skin taken for histological and bacteriological examination. |
